Smoke Free Schools
Poster Competition Guidance
Poster design guidance
The competition is to design a poster that highlights the dangers of smoking and the reasons why people should quit. Furthermore, the poster design could identify the reasons why people should not start smoking. We are looking for thought provoking posters that may trigger people to make quit attempts or stop people from starting smoking. Ideally, we are looking for positive designs that can be used to advertise the Stop Smoking Service contact details, however we appreciate the posters may be confrontational or contain negative images and we do not want to suppress the feelings or creativity of the children taking part regarding this emotive topic area.
To help you to guide the children and judge your class’s top two posters, the background and key messages of the Smoke Free Manchester Campaign are detailed on the reverse of this guidance document.
Entry requirements
The poster competition is open to Year 5 and Year 6 primary school aged children in Manchester.
Each poster should be on A4 plain paper and should have the child’s name, address, year group and school name on the back.
Each school should send their top 2 poster designs for both year groups (maximum 4) to Manchester Stop Smoking Service prior to the deadline shown below.
Closing date for poster entries: Friday 22 nd December 2006
Choosing the winners
A panel of judges (including representatives from the Stop Smoking Service, City Council and Healthy Schools) will choose the winning three entries. The panel will decide upon the winning three entries in January 2007 and the winners will be presented with their prizes at an awarding ceremony to be held in March 2007.
The winning design(s) will be produced and disseminated across Manchester. All of the finalist posters will be exhibited in Manchester Town Hall for two weeks (details to be confirmed).
